"Every child is a miracle, a unique personality, whose hidden potential must be developed in order to give his or her life meaning" (paraphrase of Pablo Casals).“ This is the motto for our entire project, guiding the development and implementation of our pedagogical goals.

Educational goals

The Lauder Beth-Zion Elementary School seeks to mould its students into young men and womeng8 who think for themselves and act accordingly. Our focus is on the welfare and growth of each individual child and on promoting his or her talent and personal development. Each child is accepted, supported and encouraged according to his or her abilities. We value an atmosphere of familiarity, joy and tolerance, in which Jewish children of all cultural backgrounds and levels of observance can feel welcome and respected. We seek to provide a structured and stimulating learning environment for our students, where they can develop into adults who are conscious of their responsibilities within society .

  • The Lauder Beth-Zion Elementary School is a full-day school. We strive to adapt our lesson plan to suit the development and interests of our students, as well as the basic pedagogic principles of our school.
  • Our goal is not only to convey the subject matter in a manner consistent with the Guidelines and Skeleton Plans of the Federal State of Berlin, but also to strengthen the Jewish identity of our students. Students study Hebrew and Jewish topics as well as secular subjects .
  • We consider Jewish and general education to be equally important, and both are taught using the latest pedagogical methods
  • We offer a high-quality and contemporary Jewish education. Jewish themes are integrated into several areas of the lesson plan (e.g. art, German). In this manner, the subject matters are combined and inter-disciplinary projects are planned whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Education with Jewish values

  • As a Jewish school, we seek to impart basic Jewish values to our children at an early stage:
  • love of learning: above all, we seek to encourage and reinforce your child's internal drive to learn in order to instill a lifelong love of learning;
  • being respectful to parents, teachers, educators and fellow students;
  • helping those in need and engaging in good deeds (charity and gmilut chasadim);
  • a sense of attachment to the Jewish people and the Land of Israel.

The lesson plan

The most important factors necessary for implementation of our pedagogical goals:

  • small class sizes (max. 15 students per class);
  • application of the "Tal Am" program, which is used at Jewish schools all over the world to teach Hebrew and Jewish history and traditions in Hebrew;
  • bi-lingual (German and Hebrew) classes from First Grade on; English beginning in 3rd Grade;
  • integration of Jewish themes in several areas of the lesson plan (e.g. art, German);
  • observance of Shabbat and Jewish holidays.
